I’m a local person who understands Hackney first-hand.
I started out at 14 doing odd jobs in a local pound shop, and today I run my own business. I currently volunteer with the London Ambulance Service, continuing my commitment to supporting people and giving back to the community.
I know what it means to work hard, build something from the ground up, and be part of a community.
Growing up, Hackney gave young people real opportunities. Youth clubs were open, adventure playgrounds were active, and there were programmes that helped guide young people in the right direction. I found that through Hackney Play Association and my local adventure playground, I completed my Level 1 Introduction to Play work at 16 and volunteered as a play worker. The opportunities that I had helped shape who I am today.
Over time, many of the opportunities have disappeared, services have been reduced, support has declined, and too many young people no longer have the same chances I had growing up.
Today a lot of communities in Hackney feel ignored. Costs are rising, services are declining, and decisions are being made without the people of hackney being listened to or taken seriously.
My Mayoral Manifesto is about putting Hackney residents first, again focusing on practical solutions, fairness, and common sense.
